the newlanders
The NewLanders are four musicians dedicated to keeping traditional music, especially that originating in or written about Western Pennsylvania, alive in both performance and in spirit. They do this by arranging and performing the music on a mixture of traditional modern instruments and fresh, updated arrangements, and in researching the history of the songs and telling those stories to the audience as they perform. I love traditional music, otherwise known as "folk songs", and watching the level of talent and dedication in these four people is almost as good as hearing the music they play.
New Website
We've worked on several other print projects together, but now it was time to update their web presence. The page is maintained by one of the group's members, so I was to build a page that he could maintain using Dreamweaver. The top photo on every page is actually a random slideshow of about 15 images so that every page looks fresh, and the front page is the only one that has the sidebar so that it can contain the most pertinent news, and most important, an MP3 player so you can listen to their music while you browse. The background image is static as the page content scrolls in front of it; it's a PhotoShopped version of a photo I took of the West End Bridge from river level. The content area of the page has sheet music in the background. To see other projects I've done for the NewLanders, visit their customer page on my site. Also, take a tour of their new website and listen to their unique arrangements of familiar traditional and folk songs depicting life and labor in Western Pennsylvania and beyond.
Promotional Flyer
This is the "one sheet" we designed last year, then redesigned this year with new information and updated photos from our 2009 photo session. They hand these to interested parties for information and possible booking.

Business Card
Everyone in the group uses the same business card, but we had the chance to use one of the new photos and the more formal version of their logo.

Post Card
The photo used as the basis of the art for this post card was taken by someone else, and instead of an in-concert shot or an image of something evoking the subject of one of their songs, we chose to use this casual image of the group after a concert to actually dispel the image of a bunch of old folk singers.

Photos
I've got more photos than I can list here, but these are a few representatives. Musicians are fun to photograph, so please check their page in my gallery.
